Dave Challinor became almost a household name during Tranmere's FA and Worthington Cup runs in 1999/2000 season, which culminated in a Wembley final in the Worthington Cup, which was lost 2-1, due to his incredibly long throw. However, he fell out of favour with boss Dave Watson during 2001 and Carlton Palmer made him County's first signing of 2002 for £125,000.
